Hydrauic Seal Installation Process

To avoid problems the following rules should be observed in the installation process of the hydraulic seal.

    •  are not guide rings. For guiding moving parts and supporting side loads use a bearing of appropriate size and material.
    • Seal materials can be damaged by side loads imposed on the rod and piston so a stiffer material is needed for protection and to provide accurate alignment of the moving parts. it is recommended that he seal is positioned as near to the bearing as possible to obtain maximum protection.
    • The sealing edges must be protected from damage when the seal is installed. All sharp edges of the housing must be removed and a chamfer provided at the edge of the rod and tube. Chamfer angle should be between 15° and 20° to the center line and have an entry length min. Stop the actual length of the seal when installed.
    • When large radial section seals are fitted into a closed groove it will be easier if they are preheated in oil at 100°C and carefully manipulated to make them more flexible.
    • Design the equipment to prevent the seal passing a groove or port when it is pressurized.
    • The clearance between the moving parts should be kept to a minimum so that the extrusion gap will not cause damage to the seal. Anti-extursion rings are available with some designs which allow a larger gap to be specified.
    • Housing surfaces accepting the seal must not have sharp edges or peaks. The should be machined to leave them smooth.
    • A dirty rod surface retracting into the cylinder is the main cause of the system decamination. So a suitable scraper ring must be fitted to remove the dirt before it can do any damage.
    • Action should be taken to remove the air from the system. in particular attention is necessary when filing or venting the circuit.
    • Make sure that no flow restrictions occur in the vicinity of seals. Otherwise it will lead to air being released from the fluid and damaging the seal.
    • Follow the recommended housing specifications, the groove dimensions, surface roughness, etc.
    • It is very important to respect the groove dimension. Otherwise it will not be able to breathe.
    • Ensure the seal is fitted in the correct position. This is particularly important without he compact single acting seals when it may not be clear which is the pressure side.
