Hydraulic Seals Selection: The early lip seal were U-Ring or cup seals, usually made out of leather. When synthetic elastomers were invented and molded shapes could be produced, other seal designs became possible and customized seals could be produced for specific problems. Depending on the performance required there are two basic types of seal profiles available: 1. Symmetrical seals, which can be used for pistons or rods, 2.
